Nepean Hospital is a public hospital and is part of Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. It is located in Western Sydney, at the base of the Blue Mountains in Penrith, one of the fastest growing areas in Sydney. Each year, Nepean Hospital provides more than 600,000 outpatients services.
Nepean Hospital Arts and Cultural Program began in 1998 with the redevelopment of the South Block. HARC manages the ongoing program that developed since the first redevelopment. During 2013- 2014 the new East Block and the new Mental Health Unit were completed
With new ICU and Surgical Wings. HARC Inc was engaged to commission art works for the new buildings.
The centre piece for the new building is a large glass 9 meters high work for the entry and waiting lobby for the surgical building. An original art work was commissioned from artist Annette Barlow, and turned into Digiglass feature wall by Malcolm Cooke. Instillation of the work was carried out by Progressive Glazing P/L.
An exhibition was held during the year with the theme of the Nepean River.
Nepean Hospital Arts for Health Galleries are very popular and shows exhibitions by local artists.
This exhibition is a partnership between the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District and the Hawkesbury-Nepean Catchment Management Authority with the aim of showcasing the beauty and diversity of the Nepean - Hawkesbury River, and to acquire artworks for Nepean Hospital's new building
Works were purchased for the new building from this exhibition with funds from sponsorship partners.
